Indian Air Strikes on Pakistan – May 7, 2025: Operation Sindoor and Its Aftermath.
Operation Sindoor became the name of nine strategic targets that the Indian Air Force attacked through precise air strikes on May 7, 2025 throughout Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Operation Sindoor launched as a counterattack against the April 22 Pahalgam Jammu and Kashmir terrorist massacre that killed 26 Indians and Nepali civilians.
Operation Details
On May 7 Indian military launched Operation Ganga through early morning hours by using Rafale aircraft which carried SCALP missiles alongside AASM Hammer bombs. The mission duration totaled 23 minutes from start to finish. Tehra Kalan, Muzaffarabad, Bhimber, Kotli, Sialkot, and Bahawalpur and Muridke functioned as hubs for terrorist groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
India declared that their airstrikes exclusively hit targets belonging to terrorism while avoiding both military bases and civilian settlements in Pakistan. Pakistani officials recorded civilian fatalities at 26 together with 46 injuries despite their evidence pointing at women and children affected by the strikes.
Pakistani Response
Pakistan announced it shot down five Indian aircraft consisting of three Rafales along with one Su-30 one MiG-29 and one drone. Security forces in Pakistan announced they hit a brigade headquarters and a border checkpost as a result. The Indian government refuted these accusations by asserting all planes from their military returned safely and no military bases received any strikes.
Pakistan used artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) to kill three civilians according to reports from India.
International Reactions
Both countries' possession of nuclear weapons caused worldwide anxiety after this military conflict developed. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres demanded that both Pakistan and India would maintain the weakest possible attitude. During the border conflict President Donald Trump of the U.S. used the term "a shame" while expressing his desire to see rapid conflict resolution. Several nations including China desired for both countries to cool the situation while restarting diplomatic talks.
Current Status
International tensions have not calmed down since both countries continue to stand ready for further action. The zone of conflict requires airspace restrictions while international flights maintain different flight paths. International observers follow developments closely to achieve a nonviolent end that will halt any potential worsening of circumstances.
