SpaceX's latest test flight for its Starship ended with a failure in the Indian Ocean.
it over the Indian Ocean. SpaceX launched the mission from its Starbase facility in Texas to check key systems of the fully reusable rocket built for trips to the Moon and Mars
Mission Overview
During the test flight, SpaceX used a reused Super Heavy booster, an important advance toward their goal of fast reusability. The mission was designed to put elght Starlink simulator satellites into orbit and test the ability to relight engines in space.
What Happened
When it was supposed to, the rocket took off and separated into its first stage as planned. The Super Heavy booster tried landing in the Gulf of Mexico but broke apart while coming down.
As a consequence, the planned engine restart and payload release could not happen
The spacecraft was unable to control its reentry and broke up as it fell into the Indian Ocean,
What does this mean for the future
Starship has now failed three times in its test flight series this year. Even with these failures, SpaceX thinks these tests are important for learning and improving the vehicle's performance. The company will investigate the reason for the failure, fix it and continue with test flights to meet its ultimate aim of going to other planets.
