The recent days have seen COVID-19 cases increase in India, as of May 26, 2025, with over 1,000 active infections. According to reports, the recent rise in COVID-19 cases may be due to variants such as NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 which are being closely studied by global groups.
What Is the Situation with COVID-19 in India Today
The numbers from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare report that India has 1,009 active COVID-19 cases. The highest number of active cases or 430, is still in Kerala, next is Maharashtra with 209 cases, then Delhi and Gujarat with 104 and 83 active cases respectively.
It’s been discovered that this contact has led to new variants.
Two new Omicron sub-variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, have led to the rise in cases we’re seeing now. In April 2025, NB.1.8.1 was spotted in Tamil Nadu, but we have also identified LF.7 in Gujarat.
