World Environment Day

Those who organize World Environment Day 2025 are highlighting the need to heal the Himalayas and fight climate change.

World Environment Day

On June 5, 2025, India looks at a global perspective.

WED 2025 encouraged people all over the world to protect and restore Earth’s sensitive environments and this message was especially directed toward the threatened Himalayan area by India. Every year on June 5, this year’s theme—““Restore the Earth: Reimagine, Recreate, Restore”—highlighted the destruction of the earth and its most vital habitats.

Have a special look at the sensitive Himalayan region.

The country celebrated World Environment Day, placing focus on issues in the Himalayan belt. People working in sustainability, science and governance pointed out that the rapid melting of glaciers, disappearances of forests and problems with the environment were due to uncontrolled tourism, building and changes in the climate.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav discussed at a conference in Uttarakhand that the Himalayas are important for India’s rivers and are a barrier that helps protect against rough climate in the subcontinent. Experts wanted authorities to regulate visitors in the area, adopt tough construction requirements and encourage sustainability.

“India depends on the Himalayas to maintain its ecological balance, apart from being a chain of mountains. The time to act is now, because if we wait it will be too late,” he underlined

Nationwide Initiatives

Across the country, there were tree plantation events, cleanup programs, awareness events and many contests for art. In New Delhi, students joined together in the shape of a giant tree to show their concern about the issue of deforestation.

People from the community and famous faces joined the clean-up drives on the beaches in Mumbai and Chennai. Cubbon Park, located in Bengaluru, hosted a green tech expo featuring startups that promote ways to reduce gas emissions.

From around the world, people and organizations are raising awareness and sending warnings about climate change.

Worldwide, the United Nations called on countries to spend more money on green infrastructure, new energy sources and farms that can resist climate change. The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, said that protecting the planet and our children is possible only through restoring ecosystems.

Researchers at the IPCC say that if greenhouse gases are not cut by half by 2030 as suggested, there is a chance that certain climate tipping points could not be reversed. Countries were requested to make promises to back the goals of the Paris Agreement and start taking genuine steps by COP30

Importance of World Environment Day

In 1974, the United Nations Environment Programme organized the first celebration of World Environment Day which has since grown into one of the biggest global campaigns to raise awareness on environmental matters. It draws in talent and participation from millions of people all across the globe as they focus on preserving the planet.

Here are the main things you should remember:

The theme for 2025 is “Restore the Earth” and India has decided to prevent additional pollution in the Himalayas.

People are demanding that rules about tourism and construction in sensitive areas be strengthened.

UN calls on all nations to respond to climate change as a top priority.

People from all walks of life join awareness events, clean ecosystems and plant trees worldwide

As this year’s World Environment Day points out, the state of the planet is connected to human well-being. We have run out of options and now we need to protect the environment for our own sake
