Strawberry Moon Spectacle Mesmerizes Skywatchers Across the Globe
Last night skywatchers got a spectacular heavenly show as the Strawberry Moon bathed the heavens with its warm, golden light. The full moon of this year reached its peak in the early mornings of June 11 and it amazed people in India, the United States, Europe and other parts of the world.
🌕 What is the Strawberry Moon?
Although it is named Strawberry Moon, this moon is not pink or red. The name is of Native American tribal origin, specificly the Algonquins, who linked the full moon in June with the seasonal strawberry harvest. It is the last full moon of spring, or the first of summer, in the Northern Hemisphere.
naturalist Global Celestial Delight
The moon was low on the horizon and its color was golden-orange because of the atmosphere of the Earth- a view that made the night even more magical. In India, the moon was seen as early as 7:30 PM on June 10 and it peaked at 5:30 AM IST on June 11.
Rooftops of Delhi to ghats of Varanasi, amateurs and photographers were there to capture the beauty of the moon as it glittered over the calm skies. Clear views were also reported in such cities as London, New York, and Tokyo, with social media overwhelmed by magnificent photos
What Made It Look So Special
However, compared to an ordinary full moon, the Strawberry Moon was very big and colorful. This can be explained by the fact that it is higher in the horizon making it appear larger and more colourful, a trick referred to as the moon illusion.
It was also accompanied by mild haze and humidity in certain areas, enhancing even more the golden effect and becoming a popular choice when doing night shots and stargazing.
🔠The astronomers give their views
Although this full moon was not a supermoon, the astronomy experts said that its timing and placement made it especially beautiful. Dr. Ramesh Iyer of the Indian Astronomical Society said, “That is a reminder of how even routine celestial phenomena can turn spectacular based on the atmosphere and environment.”
Cultural & Spiritual Significance
Most cultures attribute spiritual meaning to full moons, particularly to those that signify changes of the seasons. The Strawberry Moon can be regarded as a period of reflection, thankfulness, and new opportunities.
What is the Next Major Lunar Event?
The second significant lunar event will be the Buck Moon in July 2025, another full moon Native American tribes call. Skywatchers are already getting ready to more awesome nights in the future
