Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025: Devotion and the Culture Celebrated in a Great Way
📜 Overview
A major religious event of India that takes place today in the sacred city of Puri in the state of Odisha is the Jagannath Rath Yatra also known as the Chariot festival. It is a pious ritual that is celebrated annually by the journey of Lord Jagannath along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra (journey is about 3 kilometers) through two Holy wood-house temples, Jagannath Temple and Gundicha via a vicinity called Khetrabala.
It started this morning very early with Jai Jagannath chanting which saw a huge turnout of pilgrims, tourists and devotees worldwide.
Importance of Yatra
Rath Yatra is one of the greatest religious values of Hinduism. It is about the spiritual path that Lord Jagannath is about to take to see his birthplace. Most of the gods in Hindu temples will never leave their sanctums; Lord Jagannath, on the contrary, will come out once a year to bless his worshippers.
The three gods sit on the wooden chariots that are elaborately adorned:
Nandighosa (of Lord Jagannath)
Taladhwaja (of Lord Balabhadra)
Darpadalan (of Devi Subhadra)
Every temple annually makes a new chariot with particular spiritual wood but each chariot is a work of art.
