Israel intensifies Gaza attack as it faces a leadership rift and increases the civilian casualty figure

Jerusalem/Gaza City 14 August 2025:

The issue has seen the Israel military intensify its activities in Gaza with a new approved abstract given a green light of intensifying the attack on Gaza city. This is after there have been reports of increased tensions between the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the top leadership of the army on the speed and movement of the war.

The new operation plan is based on large scale incursions deep inside the Gaza city and the areas around, with the objective of neutralisation of what remains of Hamas military setup, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Columns of armored vehicles, backed by heavy artillery and drone attacks, went into densely populated residential areas during the night, sparking some of the worst urban fighting since the war started.

Other victims continue to die as rescue wanes

The Health Ministry in Gaza noted the deaths of at least 123 Palestinians during the last 24 hours with many of them are women and children. Humanitarian organizations have sounded an alarm that the number of lost civilian lives is increasing tremendously as assistance cannot be delivered to the areas as the fighting intensifies. Witnesses said there was panic in queues to receive aid following attacks by Israeli shelling which is said to have struck civilians waiting to get food in the district of Al-Rimal.

The United Nations urged a halt in hostilities to allow humanitarian intervention, and said that “the civilian toll of this war is out of hand.”

Domestic Israeli politics Strain in Israel

According to Israeli media, the updated plan of attack was approved by the military chief of staff even though he continued to object to the plans presented by Netanyahu on post-war rule in Gaza. Whereas Netanyahu is quoted as supporting a long lasting Israeli security presence, senior military officers are quoted as supporting a faster shift into the Palestinian-run administration with the international oversight.

Hamas and Palestinian Authority are Talking

In the interim, Hamas sources admit that it is in the process of negotiating with the Palestinian Authority (PA), through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt, on the establishment of a common post-conflict administration apparatus. The PA said it is ready to take up a “restricted administrative role” in Gaza provided reconstruction and security conditions are fulfilled.

Global Reactions

This sets a new flare that has attracted immense criticism by European leaders and the UN Secretary General who issued a warning that actions of Israel can constitute collective punishment. Reaffirming its support to Israeli security, the United States called on restraint, and repeated calls concerning civilians protecting.

With the attack raging on, East Gazans struggle to find water, power and medicines in short supply as Israel shows no hint of lifting the military action “as long as it might be needed
