Australia Condemns China’s Political Tactics and Gaza Aid Restrictions Amid Global Crisis

In a diplomatic faceoff, Australia has sharply criticized the move of China after an arrest warrant has been issued against a controversial Feng Chongyi academic in Hong Kong under the new controversial national security law. The action has heightened international concern at an increasingly vigilant Beijing-imposed crackdown on the dissent and its increasing influence outside its mainland boundaries.

In the meantime, Australia as well is on the pressure of the Israeli government by questioning its policies concerning supply of humanitarian aid to the Gaza region insisting on immediate measures to ease the deterioration of the crisis in the war-stricken state.

China Australia Divide Continues With Warrant Of Arrest

Hong Kong authorities have accused Australian academic Feng Chongyi, who is born Chinese and outspoken opponent of the Chinese Communist Party, of colluding with foreign forces. These accusations are based on the national security law implemented in Beijing that can be prosecuted extraterritorially, even of non-residents.

Chongyi, who recently moved to Sydney, described the move as a political persecution blatancy citing China has crushed scholarly voices and those who speak against it in overseas. This was echoed by the Australian government which described the warrant as a bad precedent to international academia and freedom of expression.

Penny Wong, the Foreign Minister of Australia said, this warrant is not only a move against Professor Feng, but is also an act of aggression against principles of academic independence and the rule of law. Australia is adamant in protecting its citizens against intimidation by foreigners

Israel Gaza Crisis Australia 10 Joins Call for Humanitarian Action

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the other hand, urged Israel in parallel developments to ease the blockade on entry of aids to the Gaza Strip, after alarming reports of famine and shortage of medication. The appeal follows a grim speech given by international humanitarian organization, Medecins Sans Frontiers ( Doctors Without Borders ) on the growing food crisis in Gaza.

Albanese noted that the situation is urgent: The people of Gaza; women and children are being starved by the circumstances which can and should be avoided. We call upon the Israeli government to ensure that they allow complete and unrestricted access of humanitarian assistance.”

Israel has retaliated by embarking on small aid drops and also declaring to open UN-sponsored humanitarian corridors. Critics however state that such measures are unattainable and inadequate to response the magnitude of the crisis.

The Reactions of the World and What Next?

Reflecting Australia position in the world context, the two crises emphasize its new found tendency of taking its stand on humanitarian issues, issues of democracy as well as on diversity. The scope of extraterritorial law in China and the Israeli military policy in Gaza has become nondebatable areas on Australia foreign policy.

The positive stand of Australia has been met well by human rights groups and other countries are encouraged to hold the same position. In the meantime, geopolitical scholars note that Canberra is caught between two battles: not only with Beijing but also with Tel Aviv, which may overload important diplomatic and trade ties.

These few days will prove big on the value of international pressure in fronts of both camps. As today stands, the message is very loud in Australia, it will not be a quiet nation in a land of injustice either in our country or to other humans in other countries.
