During a medical flight on May 17, 2025, an air ambulance from AIIMS Rishikesh crashed after landing near the helipad in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand. A mid-flight technological issue with the helicopter in the Sanjeevani Heli Ambulance service led to harm to the rear part of the aircraft. Despite the seriousness of the crash, everyone onboard was unharmed.
Incident Details
The helicopter was ready to pick up a female devotee with breathing problems when it had to stop suddenly due to technical difficulties. Rahul Chaubey, the Heli Nodal Officer, explained that the pilot redirected the landing to a nearby flat area to protect the team before they could reach their usual helipad.
The Garhwal Commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey, stated that the accident happened because the tail rotor broke during the landing. A clip of the event appears on social media, showing how that fast action prevented more problems.
Response and Investigation
During the peak of the Char Dham Yatra, when many pilgrims were in Kedarnath, the incident took place. The incident brought panic to the pilgrims, but authorities immediately acted to bring things under control. An investigation has begun to find out what caused the technical glitch.
